Quinnipiac University Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine has a new and exciting opportunity for the opening of its new common laboratory facilities for research and education. We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to supervise and manage all aspects of the laboratory and conduct research experiments designed by faculty & students from the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. The laboratory will be used for a variety of research approaches including, but not limited to, molecular biological and biochemical techniques, tissue culture, and small animal model systems. The Laboratory Manager will work closely and collaboratively with faculty investigators and medical students.

The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine is located in the Center for Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences on Quinnipiac’s North Haven Campus with the School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing. The three schools are united not only in the same state-of-the-art complex but by the same mission: to graduate medical and health care practitioners who will be the driving force for a more collaborative, economical and efficient health care system. With the addition of a medical school, Quinnipiac is educating the triad responsible for primary care—the physician assistant, nurse practitioner and physician.   • Conduct experiments using comprehensive knowledge of relevant science
  • Manage and oversee the laboratory including the creation of an annual budget
  • Work with the Director of Finance and University’s procurement department; evaluate service contracts, manage supply orders and general inventory
  • Maintain the overall laboratory organization and inventory, including chemical inventory and placement, preparation for laboratory and inspections and work with instrument vendors for repair
  • Ensure that the physical and environmental conditions are appropriate for the research being performed and provide a safe environment that protects investigators from physical and chemical hazards and compliance with all organizational policies, state and federal laws
  • Supervise laboratory personnel
  • Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other university departments
  • Serve as a member of the School of Medicine Research Advisory Committee
  • Supervise students conducting research at the facilities and work collaboratively with Faculty
  • Participate in the design and delivery of laboratory educational programs
  • Oversee management of the vivarium and animal facilities

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Master’s degree in Laboratory Sciences; or in either Biology or Chemistry preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in investigative research
  • Experience in the management of animal research and/or facilities
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining licensure and continuing education to remain current on all new laboratory regulations and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both faculty and staff in an academic setting 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet goals and accomplish tasks with a high level of detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge and experience in supervision and education of students 
  • Experience working effectively in teams and individually
