Overview:

Quinnipiac University invites applications for a Senior Writer and Editor to write, create and edit engaging content for Quinnipiac Magazine, the university website including Quinnipiac Now, and other electronic and print communications.  The Senior Writer and Editor will also complete additional writing and editing of assignments, including Commencement citations and programs.  This role will report to the Director of Editorial Services within the office of Brand Strategy and Integrated Communications.

The Office of Brand Strategy & Integrated Communications within Quinnipiac University is responsible for brand and marketing communications strategy, planning, execution and reporting across all University communications channels.

 

The work of the Office of Brand Strategy & Integrated Communications is segmented into four core functions:

1. University Brand Strategy, Identity, Awareness and Communications Governance
2. Marketing & Communications Planning and Execution
3. Marketing Communications Consulting Services
4. Creative Services (editorial, design, photography, video, creative production, etc.)

Responsibilities:

  • Craft interesting, multidimensional profiles and brand stories with assigned deadlines.
  • Produce clearly written and well-researched, longer issue-oriented magazine pieces.
  • Contribute ideas for brand stories and magazine features and other content.
  • Edit and fact check publications, from magazine articles and view books to posters and invitations.
  • Occasionally collaborate with designers and video producers to create compelling videos, illustrations or web infographics.
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with subjects for stories and visual content.
  • Cover events when assigned (occasional night or weekend work required).
  • Assign stories and work with freelance writers.
  • Collaborate with social, web, the magazine editor and public relations professionals to ensure maximum use of content on multiple platforms.
  • Network and build relationships with university constituents for content idea cultivation.
  • Write citations for Commencement and other events.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Journalism or Communications is preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in writing and/or editing, preferably outside of higher education
  • Superior project management skills
  • Expert research skills
  • Keen news judgment
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to collaborate and establish an efficient work flow.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (InDesign and Photoshop a plus)
  • Understanding of the printing process desired
