The Department of Student Affairs at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an Associate Director of Campus Life to serve as a catalyst for student community and is committed to the development of a vibrant array of programs and services which empower students, increasing a sense of belongingness and engagement on campus, and developing student leadership skills through innovative and impactful programs. Reporting to the Director of Campus Life, the Associate Director is responsible for the strategic oversight to a dynamic office and serves as the advocate, practice and policy developer, and chief visionary for student-led organizations on campus. In addition, this position  will serve as the primary advisor to our student media organizations and foster a learning and working environment which improve students’ skills in journalism, leadership, fiscal responsibility, mass communication, and teamwork.The Associate Director will directly manage marketing efforts for both Student Centers, Student Involvement functional area, and the Campus Life area. 


This position requires availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 Administration & Supervision:

• Serves in a management role for Student Centers and Student Involvement area of Campus Life the absence of the Director
• Hires, trains, and supervises, and evaluates assigned graduate assistant(s)
• Conceives, coordinates, implements and evaluates programs and services associated with other areas in the Office of Campus Life 
• Approves student expenditures, tracks expenses, and effectively manages assigned budgets and related fiscal tasks in strict accordance with University policy

Student Media Advising:

•Advises Q30 television station, The Chronicle newspaper, WQAQ radio station, Summit Yearbook, Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network (QBSN), and Montage literary magazine
•Supervises the manager of Quinnipiac Student Media (QSM) business group
 Manages the student media programming budget including processing and tracking of all expenditures
•Meets regularly with media leaders and attends organization meetings
•Creates and develops leadership training programs for media leaders and its membership which promote communication skills in writing, editing, photography, desktop publishing, layout, advertising design, and leading members
•Oversees selection/election processes of student leaders in each media organization
•Coordinates and attends national/regional conferences with student leaders
•Arranges equipment purchases and maintains inventory
•Coordinates annual bid/contractual processes and communicates regularly with printers, photographers, service providers, and equipment vendors
•Helps to ensure timely production and publication for the media organizations

Student Organization Oversight:

• Oversees the new student organization recognition process
• Approves Student Organizations events and chairs the Student Organization Event Management Committee
• Oversees and maintains the Student Organization Event Management Process
• Create and implements leadership training and development programs for recognized Student Organization officers, members, and advisors
• Manages the Engage online student event and student organization management program “Do You QU”
• Organizes the annual Involvement Fair
• Coordinates the processes related to the Student Organization Conduct Process and serves as the coordinator for hearing officers and organizations involved


Student Leadership Development:
• Conceives, develops, and presents additional leadership development programs that align with Campus Life's Leadership Development Model
• Supports and promotes leadership development and learning efforts within Campus Life
• Serves as a champion for student leadership development across Quinnipiac through advocacy, positive role-modeling, and a clear commitment to training and development


Marketing and Communications:
• Serves as the primary coordinator for all Campus Life marketing efforts
• Supervises student graphic designers
• Serves as liaison to the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Brand Strategy and Integrated Marketing
• Communicates statistics regarding student participation in organizations and events, group activities and programs, and academic/conduct standing of organization members
• Updates website, brochures, student handbook, and forms within an established timeline for area marketing

Additional Duties:
• Provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight to multiple integrated areas which collaboratively impact student life
• Supports University programs and initiatives including the Quinnipiac University Learning Paradigm, strategic plan for Inclusion, Multiculturalism and Globalism in Education (IMaGinE), and Campus Life essential learning outcomes
• Represents the Division of Student Affairs on assigned university-wide committees
• Attends and/or facilitates trainings, retreats, summits, and planning sessions as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

•A master's degree required, 3 to 5 years of professional experience in working with student media and student organizations in the campus life environment
•Clearly understands and can articulate the critical importance around practices of inclusive excellence, justice, and diversity in higher education
•Able to demonstrate a track record of creative problem solving, unique approaches to complex challenges, and a high level of productivity and performance
•Evidences excellent problem solving, conflict resolution, personal judgment and crisis management skills
•Demonstrates strong leadership, program planning, and organizational skills to oversee and develop a multi-faceted area providing a wide range of student services
•A commitment and ability to engage students in the learning process through intentional programs and a high level of personal contact is a must
